My Love for Faux Taxidermy and Chalkboards

**To see my Etsy Listing click here**

Ah yes. The title says it all for this one.  By all means do I like being different or unique, but when it comes to these two categories I haven't quite run out of the love.  Chalkboards are popping up everywhere; it isn't really the chalkin' it up that I enjoy though, but rather the color and texture it creates.  And faux taxidermy? Well, I think it takes a special person to appreciate it: either a proud hunter or strange artsy type.  I guess I'm not really either of those but I do lean more on the side of strange artsy.

Now that I've explained my aesthetic reasoning I will actually talk about my project.  Have you found pinterest?  If you haven't, please get out from the rock you've been living under.

Disclaimer: PA (pinterest addiction) is a growing epidemic and hazardous danger to your project-completing free-time.

I saw this on Pinterest and put it on my 'Future Projects' board.  You can find it at this blog.  I'm not really sure if Abbey at AestheticOutburst made it, but I wouldn't be surprised...she has many a talented work that has ended up on my Pinterest board.

Then, a couple of days ago my mom introduced me to a very local and awesome antique shop where I found several items for cheaps.  One of those items happened to be a vintage chalboard.

And off to Michael's I went.  I found fabric paper with an adhesive backing in my favorite blue-green color.  Perfect. I also picked up this wood-painting marker for less than a dollar.  Clearance baby.

As you can see by the photos, I used the pen to decorate the boarder in a sort of naturally sloppy herringbone pattern.  I drew out my best deer silhouette and cut it out using a crappy pair of scissors.  I didn't even use an exacto knife! If that's not DIY friendly I don't know what is!

If you love this, please visit my Etsy store because I am selling it there!  I love it so but know that this college girl needs the money.  Get it while it's hot folks.

And if you are more of a maker like me, Etsy also sells some chalkboards that are similar such as here, here, and here.
